Ed Rubinstein – Manager, Department of Energy & Environment
Ed Rubinstein has been responsible for developing and leading UHN's Environmental Management System since 1999. Responsibilities include managing the Hospital's $20 million annual utility budget and procurement process as well as overseeing environmental management and programs at UHN. Both UHN and Ed's leadership in the field of “greening healthcare” have been recognized by several awards, including those from the Ontario Hospital Association, Natural Resources Canada, Practice Greenhealth and the Canadian Council of Ministers for the Environment.

Kady Cowan - Energy Steward

Kady Cowan - Energy Steward
Kady Cowan helps to coordinate the implementation of energy and environmental management, pollution prevention, and toxics and waste reduction at UHN.  Kady tackles the complexity of greening healthcare through a three pronged approach including technical, process and behaviour change.   This approach includes translating complex environmental messages for a wide variety of audiences.  Kady seeks and uses innovative methods to appropriately engage and motivate individuals and organizations to achieve sustainability.

Lisa Vanlint - Energy Steward

Lisa Vanlint - Energy Steward
Lisa Vanlint is the Energy Steward at University Health Network (UHN) in their 13 years strong Energy and Environment Department. She previously acted as Greening Coordinator at St. Michael’s Hospital, and has extensive experience working with staff on all areas of sustainability. Recycling, composting, energy conservation, sustainable transportation and reduced use of toxics all fall under this sustainability umbrella. With a background in Communications and Project Management from University of Toronto and Ryerson, Lisa’s main focus is on employee engagement and behavior change. Lisa helps the many individuals and departments who wish to do the right thing to understand the what, how and why so that their actions can follow their intentions. And if they have fun doing it, all the better.
