Information Management and Technology

Shared Information Management Services (SIMS) is the information management and technology (IM/IT) department for University Health Network (UHN) as well as eight other health care organizations in the Greater Toronto Area. Since 2004, UHN has partnered its IM and IT services with Bridgepoint Health, Central Community Care Access Centre (CCAC), Providence Healthcare, St. John’s Rehab Hospital, Toronto Central CCAC, Toronto Rehabilitation Institute, West Park Healthcare Centre and Women’s College Hospital to coordin ate efficient health care delivery and help transition patients seamlessly across the health care field.

SIMS works on integrating projects across the entire partnership, spanning the acute, rehabilitation, complex continuing, long-term and community care sectors. For specific partners, SIMS also shares human and capital resources to achieve operational gains.

Some of our integration achievements include an integrated electronic health record (iEHR), electronic referrals, emergency room notifications, advancements in chronic disease management and patient portals.

Team-members come from a variety of academic backgrounds, such as business, engineering, computer science, education, medicine, nursing and information technology.
