The Laboratory Medicine Program’s hematology division supports other programs such as clinical oncology, transplant, neuroscience and cardiovascular by providing a comprehensive menu of over 100 hematology tests and consultative services.

Hematology at the Laboratory Medicine Program is home to a comprehensive, 24-hour transfusion service for all surgical and clinical programs at the University Health Network teaching hospitals. The transfusion service is key in supporting complex cardiovascular, solid organ transplant, bone marrow transplant, surgical oncology, transplantation and immunology programs at the hospital. Our flow cytometry laboratory has set the world wide standard for CD34 (stem cell) enumeration for bone marrow transplantation.

Other testing services in hematology include routine testing, highly specialized coagulation and molecular based testing. Consultation services include providing diagnostic advice on complex cases, routine interpretation of tests, collaborative diagnosis, and scientific, strategic, and regulatory consultations.
