Thrombosis Clinic
UHN's thrombosis treatment program was established in 1997 to deliver integrated, safe and effective outpatient care and treatment for patients with blood clotting or anticoagulation problems.
The clinic is staffed by nurse coordinators and physicians with a primary interest and expertise in venous thrombosis and anticoagulation. The thrombosis program currently treats approximately 600-700 patients per year with new acute venous blood clots.
This program provides the following services to referred patients:
- Long-term management of coumadin treatment
- Initiation of coumadin treatment for new blood clots
- Management of coumadin treatment before and after surgery
- Consultations with haematology specialists for complex blood clot cases
- Consultations with geneticists about inherited blood clot disorders
