A Patient’s Guide to Retinal Diseases

A visit to the vitreoretinal surgeon can be a very stressful occasion. The patient is experiencing frightening symptoms and confronted with the possibility of having a potentially blinding condition. There is a lack of information available on the disease processes and all the tests and treatments available. The patient may also not have the time to digest the information presented and may forget crucial bits of information given by the surgeon. It is the aim of this book to present a simplified and easily understood presentation of the common retinal diseases and the answers to questions most often asked by patients. It must be emphasised that this is not a diagnostic aid for patients— a visit to the retinal surgeon is always necessary if any of the symptoms mentioned in this book occur.
